SMARTHON is an IoT (Internet of Things) focused company with immense experience on STEM education. We make IoT starter kits for micro:bit designed to teach and engage users, teachers and students understand IoT better through making daily application cases.
In the past two years, we have successfully launched first hero product – “Smart City IoT Starter Kit for micro:bit” which sold 2,000 kits to over 200 schools in Hong Kong and to overseas, namely Singapore, Demark, Netherlands and Dubai. VisionARi Limited is an EdTech company that is pioneering education innovation. Today, students’ access to advanced consumer technologies has revolutionised how knowledge is accessed and affects classroom dynamics. The co-founders observed these effects first-hand, having taught at university over the past decade, and witnessed a gradual decline in students’ ability to maintain engagement and retain knowledge.
However, when educators attempt to deploy commercial platforms in classes, they face a variety of pains, such as high costs, complex implementations, and unproven educational benefits. In 2023, VisionARi released its MVP, which enabled educators in primary, secondary, and university classes to visualise a variety of STEM subjects through immersive AR more easily, cheaper, and more effectively. University members in Asia, Europe and North America applied our platform to communicate their work, and education academics assessed and validated our platform’s ability to improve engagement and academic performance.
In the proposed project, we will combine the immersive learning experience of AR with the conversational interactions and predictive capabilities of AI. These innovations will provide students with enhanced 3-D experiences and give teachers new means to improve classroom performance. These features will be packaged into subscribable digital products, offering turn-key solutions for biology teachers and engineering educators. These milestones will lay the foundations of an EdTech platform that has the potential to benefit a local industry of over 35,000 teachers and 600,000 students and generate up to HK$ 25M/yr in recurrent revenue. By the end of the project, we will prepare the platform for overseas deployment, where the market is 50 times larger.
The CIP program’s generous resources will give the team an opportunity to establish stronger relations with local industry and push its new EdTech platform through trials, thereby ensuring we develop a high-quality, high-demand, and high-impact digital product for our community.
