Background
The SWEETIE online platform introduced in this event is one of the project deliverables under the e-Learning Ancillary Facilities Programme (eLAFP) funded by the Quality Education Fund (QEF). As the project grantee, the Education University of Hong Kong developed the platform over two years with the support from 80+ participating schools. To realise the goal of “STEAM for All”, we created the SWEETIE online learning platform to address two major challenges in promoting STEAM education: insufficient teacher confidence and catering to learning diversity. The platform introduces groundbreaking features across 5 key areas: systematic STEAM curriculum structure, comprehensive 7-step SWEETIE pedagogy, six-dimensional expandable teaching kits, adaptable self-directed learning modes, and dual-experience teacher training strategies, suitable for innovation and technology education, design and technology subject, and STEAM project learning. We have continuously enhanced our platform, now fully evolved into an AI-driven innovation and design education platform. Created to make technology a true teaching partner rather than an added burden, we have integrated predictive and generative AI learning resources, empowering students to harness AI effectively for exploring scientific and technological concepts, while systematically building their AI literacy. We are also developing SWEETIE AI agent that will provide 24/7 academic support by clarifying questions to learning content and facilitating interactive, dialogue-based discussions. By securely analysing learning patterns, the platform will power an adaptive recommendation engine to deliver personalised learning pathways—guiding students hand-in-hand as they explore a broader, more dynamic world of STEAM.
