Promoting Wellness

The Hong Kong ICT Awards 2025: Student Innovation Award will add two new awards “Teacher Active Guidance Award” and “School Active Participation Award” to honor educators’ contributions to advancing information technology. “Promoting Wellness” stands as a key competition theme this year, challenging youth to develop innovative solutions for psychological health challenges.

Amidst invisible pressures of urban life, how can technology build mental health safeguards? The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s (CUHK) Faculty of Medicine (CU Medicine) has developed a mobile depression assessment app that deploys multimodal artificial intelligence (AI) analysis, which means using AI to analyse the user’s multimodal data, including facial expressions, voice, language and subjective mood state, as well as rest-activity statistics, measured using actigraphy. This breakthrough transcends traditional questionnaires by translating clinical knowledge into machine-learning features, demonstrating technology’s preventive healthcare potential.
